RECAP: WE Day Montreal 2015

Montreal! What an amazing day of inspiration, positive change, and of course, tons of fun.

Montreal! What an amazing day of inspiration, positive change, and of course, tons of fun.

More than 4000 students, educators, and guests filled the Théâtre Saint-Denis to hear amazing speeches and stand-out performances on March 24 and 25. That’s right we had TWO full WE Days in Montreal—one in English, and another en Français. Together, we celebrated a year of taking action locally and globally. We are feeling so motivated for another year of making a difference.

To get you caught up, here are some of our favourite moments from WE Day Montreal 2015!

Since WE Day is the coolest classroom in the world, our day was split up into four periods: Economic Empowerment, Social Empowerment, Technological Empowerment, and of course, Educational Empowerment!

But don’t worry, there was no falling asleep in these classes with awesome teachers from Much Music hosts Liz Trinnear and Tyrone Edwards to feminist activist Léa Clermont-Dion and Hip Hop artist Samian.

To a standing ovation, retired lieutenant-general and hometown hero Roméo Dallaire took the stage to enthusiastically share his passion for the next generation. He told us we can all be a part of making our world a better place. When a legend speaks… we’re all ears!

We had some AMAZING speakers with diverse backgrounds from education to the arts, and Grammy-nominated artist & cancer-survivor Jonathan Emile was definitely a stand-out! He came on stage singing, rhymed throughout his speech, and inspired the audience of young world-changers.

Some of the best moments at WE Day are when we get to hear from our youth speakers. They prove over and over that you are never too young to make a difference. We heard from youth like 17-year-old inventor Anya Pogharian and 12-year-old eco-blogger Hannah Alper!

Crowd fav Ashley Rose Murphy shared her VITAL & powerful message on self-acceptance. We were definitely taking notes!

There were so many local names that graced the stage this year, but one truly memorable moment was Quebec legend Mitsou having a heart-to-heart with the crowd. She opened up about what she’s learned from fame and her struggles with body image. Perfection is overrated!

What was our ABSOLUTELY favourite thing about WE Day in Montreal? All of YOU. For real. Seeing your smiling, excited faces was the best thing ever ‘cause in case you didn’t already know this… you’re the reason why WE Day exists.

Of course, performances from artists like Kardinal Offishall, Karl Wolf, Jonas & The Massive Attraction, Neverest and JRDN and all of our incredible speakers had us cheering wildly, dancing in our seats, and ready to make an impact. WE Day Montreal and Unis pour l’action Montréal THANK YOU for all of your work—the future is brighter because of you!

WE Day is free of charge to the thousands of students and educators in attendance, thanks to the generous support of sponsors led by National Co-Title Sponsors RBC and TELUS. Learn more about WE Day Montreal
