Frequently Asked Questions

The DHL Youth Volunteer Fellowship Award was created to highlight the incredible work of youth across the U.S. and celebrate your commitment to changing the world through service, volunteerism and action. DHL and WE want to give you the resources, mentorship and opportunity to grow as social leaders and help create positive change.

To apply for this award you must apply at WE.org/dhl, where you will be asked to fill out an application form, including answering four questions that highlight your dedication to taking action. You will be asked to tell us about your passion for your selected causes or issues, as well as describe how you have successfully created positive change locally or globally.

The DHL Youth Volunteer Fellowship Award program is open to students aged 13 to 18 (at the time of applying) who are currently enrolled in schools in Texas, Minnesota, Illinois, New York, Washington and California. Participants must have a U.S. passport valid until February 2020, and be able to travel internationally. They must show a demonstrated commitment to taking action through service and volunteerism. Past year’s winners are not eligible to win again.

Winners will receive a prize pack consisting of:

  • A ME to WE Youth Trip to Ecuador* in August 2019, including flights, accommodations, food and in-country ground transportation
  • Support from a dedicated WE mentor who will provide guidance and tips to help them execute their action plan
  • The opportunity to attend their local WE Day and present on stage
  • The chance to attend a leadership workshop with senior members of both DHL and WE to learn firsthand from accomplished social leaders

*Each recipient is responsible for his/her own travel insurance, vaccinations, transit visas (if applicable) and valid passports.

There will be six recipients.

ME to WE Youth Trips are immersive volunteer experiences that give young travelers the unique opportunity to work side-by-side with locals on sustainable development projects in WE Villages communities. These life-changing trips offer youth the chance to see the world and help change it. Activities include participating in local traditions, volunteering on a project and leadership modules.

The deadline for applications is April 30, 2019.

The winners (6) will be notified by June 13, 2019.

If you have any questions about the program or how to apply, feel free to contact us at [email protected]. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

A selection committee of one to five DHL employees and WE representatives will review applications and choose the award recipients.

Applications will be shortlisted (approximately 20 to 30 applicants) by WE. The final six winners will be selected by a committee of one to five DHL employees and WE representatives.

DHL partners with WE year-round to help make an impact in local and global communities. DHL Express U.S. is the Official Logistics Partner of the WE Day events for each city on the U.S. tour, where DHL provides shipping support and employee volunteers. DHL also supports the social enterprise arm of WE, having shipped since 2012 to U.S. and Canada retailers over 1.5 million pieces of jewelry handmade by female artisans in Kenya and Ecuador, helping these women earn an income to send their children to school.
