Domestic violence survivor finds healing in community service

BY DEEPA SHANKARAN AND KEN GALLOWAY

Once homeless, now at home

Samantha Orvis-Campbell was five years old when her mother woke her in the dead of night to flee their home, to escape the violence. After shuffling through a series of shelters, she found herself in the street, at 18, with a child of her own. Now 25, Samantha has gone back to school and, with help from a WE Schools teacher, is breaking the cycle of poverty, addiction and violence. Watch how she’s fighting back by giving back.
