WE Day Vancouver: A sneak peek at the 2019 lineup

Hey, Vancouverites, get ready for WE Day! Coming to Vancouver’s Rogers Arena November 19th, this year’s event promises big names and even bigger inspiration.

As Van City prepares to welcome thousands of young leaders from schools in neighboring towns and cities, anticipation for WE Day Vancouver heightens.

With this year’s lineup of speakers and performers, including British singer-songwriter Bishop Briggs, America's Got Talent alum Darci Lynne and basketball legend/inspirational social advocate Kareem Abdul-Jabbar—to list just a few guests—WE Day Vancouver promises to excite the passion of all the young leaders in the audience

The countdown has begun! Soon the Rogers Arena will open its doors to throngs of change-makers, coming together to mark a year of world-altering social impacts, achieved through the WE Schools program. What’s WE Schools? Just the most innovative and engaging way for teachers to bring service-learning to their classrooms. One part lesson plans, one part hands-on campaigns, the WE Schools curriculum helps students take action on global issues (think everything from food security to environmental protection), while encouraging them to volunteer in their own local community.

The big reward for their efforts comes when WE Day rolls around and they’ve racked up enough volunteer hours to earn a ticket to the big show. (That’s right, tickets to this star-studded event can’t be purchased; can you say “exclusive”?)

Below, check out some of the talented and inspirational individuals set to take the WE Day Vancouver stage.

Tip: Can’t make it to Vancouver for the big show? Join thousands of viewers from all around the globe and tune in to WE Day Vancouver online via our live webcast.

Anna Cathcart

Anna Cathcart

You know her as the youngest—and spunkiest—of three Covey sisters in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, but what you may not have known is that this B.C.-born actress is a persevering force off screen. Named one of TigerBeat and Instagram’s 19under19 last year, the teen screen star was honored among other noteworthy young artists, including fellow WE Day speaker Johnny Orlando, for empowering her generation as a positive role model. If, like us, you can’t get enough of the charisma this talented entertainer brings to roles (hello, Descendants!), you won’t want to miss her appearance—guaranteed to be as inspiring as it is energetic—on the WE Day stage.

Jay Shetty

Jay Shetty

He’s a Forbes 30 under 30 alum, an award-winning host, storyteller, viral content creator and ex-monk turned thought-leader; meet Jay Shetty. While having become a staple in mainstream media (Ellen is a fan; need we say more?), this London-born multi-hyphenate hasn’t forgotten his spiritual roots. A believer in mindfulness expressed through compassion, he is dedicated to teaching the next generation about the importance of well-being and giving back. WE Day Vancouver will want to take a moment to reflect on his message. With all that world-changing, it’s important to take time for self-care, too.

Serena Ryder

Serena Ryder

Readying for her Christmas Kisses Tour appearance in Vancouver, Serena Ryder has a bonus in store for locals delivered in the form of a WE Day guest spot, just a few days in advance of her own big show. A Juno Award winning artist, the Toronto native has earned critical acclaim for her musical talents, while winning the hearts of her fanbase through her advocacy for charitable organizations like Artists Against Racism and the Canadian Kidney Foundation. Be it for her musical talents or her stance on social advocacy, Serena Ryder is one WE Day guest we’re betting will get the audience out of their seats.

James Orbinski

James Orbinski

The pursuit of knowledge and extension of human compassion have shaped the career of James Orbinski in equal measure. As a leading scholar in global health, this medical doctor, professor, humanitarian and bestselling author perpetually changes the lives of others through his tireless efforts to turn global attention and action toward the world’s most pressing issues. Whether in the field or standing before an audience as a guest speaker, he represents both the marginalized and the masses, fighting for everything from aid for war-ravaged populations to raising awareness around the effects of climate change on public health. WE Day Vancouver goers, prepare to be awestruck when this speaker steps into the spotlight—the wisdom he’ll be sharing demands it.

Katherine McNamara

Katherine McNamara

As an actress, she’s got range, acting in everything from dramas (The Stand, coming to CBS All Access in 2020) to sci-fi hits (Shadowhunters). As a humanitarian, her credits are even more impressive. She is an ambassador for the United Nations Foundation’s girl-empowerment organization, Girl Up, and volunteer at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. To summarize: Katherine McNamara is an all-around superstar, who grounds her life in Hollywood with charity work. Given that describing her as “impressive” doesn’t come close to capturing this actress’s long list of accomplishments (did we mention she graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Business from Drexel University’s Le Bow School of Business at the age of 17?), we anticipate nothing but an exceptional onstage moment from her.
