Changing the world starts in the classroom

Made possible through an exclusive partnership between the College Board and WE, AP with WE Service is a program that offers AP teachers the opportunity to incorporate service-learning into their existing courses. We’re excited to announce that it’s now available in ALL AP Courses! Two curriculum modules have been developed by the College Board, WE and active AP teachers to align with the AP Course Framework. This enables teachers and students to engage with relevant coursework through a local and global context. Upon successful completion of program requirements, students can earn a recognition on their AP Score Report, as well as their high school transcript.


This program is in exclusive partnership with CollegeBoard.AP and WE’s partnership provides an opportunity for students to consider their classroom work through real world civic engagement, while working closely with their peers to address actionable topics. WE’s service-learning approach allows students to develop new skills and apply knowledge they are acquiring in their AP courses to local and global contexts, through innovation, creativity and critical thinking.

AP Teachers

After opting in to the AP with WE Service program, educators select from one of two curriculum modules that have been developed by the College Board, WE and active AP teachers to align with the AP Course Framework. Teachers are expected to spend up to 10 hours of in-class instruction working through the curriculum module, while students will spend an additional 20 hours outside of the classroom completing service-learning related projects.

AP Students

By incorporating service-learning into existing AP courses, students learn about social issues while earning an AP with WE Service Recognition on their AP Score Report and high school transcript. They spend up to 10 hours in-class examining the root causes of social issues and planning actions—locally, nationally and globally. They also spend approximately 20 hours outside the classroom completing a related service project. This program helps deepen student’s leadership and social skills, critical thinking abilities and civic engagement while broadening their college, university and career choices.
