The community of Esinoni is located in the Nkori Nkori region of the South Narok District in Kenya. It is currently home to over 1,200 residents, including 800 children under the age of 18.
The village itself is located in a high-altitude, flat-land area where sparse trees do little to slow the heavy winds experienced in the area. To reach the local town, Mulot, residents must travel one hour by vehicle, or three hours by foot, over roads which are functional, but marred by damage. The community lies 29 kilometers from Kisaruni Secondary School.
Although community members are noted as having a high degree of professionalism, and display exceptional levels of participation and enthusiasm, social and economic progress remain unrealized in Esinoni due to a lack of educational infrastructure, an acute lack of clean water and healthcare, and numerous agricultural challenges which have stifled productivity and growth.
In partnership with Esinoni and the local government, WE Charity implements holistic, sustainable, development programming through the Free The Children’s WE Villages model, empowering community members with the resources and knowledge to break the cycle of poverty.
The Kernels Optimism Project is committed to creating meaningful change and lasting impact in the communities and programs it supports through its partnership with WE Charity.
