It feels good to do good!
Our friends at Seize the Awkward have lots of advice on traversing what might seem like tricky terrain. “Talking to your friend about mental health can be scary,” they concede. “But reaching out when you’re feeling down or when you see a friend struggling can make a huge difference.”
Billie Eilish has contributed her name and some hard-earned advice to the Seize the Awkward campaign. The singer and songwriter has shared publicly what it was like to deal with clinical depression when she was younger. For starters, she wants people to know that it does not make you weak to ask for help.
And when it comes time to starting a conversation with a friend, she suggests you try opening with, “Are you okay?” After they say “I’m good,” she suggests following up with “Really? Are you actually good?”
Keep your ears open and listen, she says. “Even if it’s a little comfort, it can mean a lot to someone.”
