At the WE Day Family event in Toronto, Hennessey, 10, was inspired to take action for girls’ education. Now, her whole family has joined her cause.

It started with an idea. Looking for ways to make a difference, Hennessey decided to craft T-shirt bags using donated materials, raising funds to buy school uniforms for kids in Zimbabwe through a local organization. It wasn’t long before the rest of Hennessey’s family—mom Christine, dad John and sister Rowan, 9—joined in. To date, they’ve raised $2,500 for the Hennessey Bag project by making T-shirt bags and running events like a garage sale and barbecue.
“The fact that Hennessey was the one who said ‘I need to do something’ made me so proud as a mom,” says Christine. “We want to inspire other people in the community to find their spark and figure out what they’re passionate about.”
