Connect with a cause or passion, then rally your community and volunteer with purpose
We can bust big issues like hunger and poverty when we all pull together and take action with the WE Volunteer Now campaign.
Getting involved will teach kids that even small, everyday actions can make a difference in someone’s life. With a little guidance, children will respond in a way that makes them feel less helpless and more hopeful about the world they live in, and feel empowered to be part of the solution. And we know that youth who volunteer are more likely to do well in school, graduate and vote.
Serving others also nurtures our own well-being. Scores of studies show that the rewards of volunteering include a greater sense of community and even lower blood pressure and stress levels. Giving back also gives us a “helper’s high,” boosting brain chemicals, like dopamine.
Community building comes in many forms. You can volunteer your time, compassion, skills and professional experience. Here are some ways to lend a hand.
- Help out at festivals and fundraisers that require community support.
- Spend a day sorting food at your local food bank.
- Welcome new families to your neighborhood and treat them to the “insider’s” tour of the community.
- Offer to care for an elderly neighbor’s garden or help with their property maintenance.
Sign your family up for the WE Volunteer Now campaign, receive helpful resources and make your mark with your actions.
